Though we have already posted some devotionals and Bible Studies, one of the main reasons for this site is The Mark 9:24 Project, an in-depth study of the book of Mark. We’ve now published the first of many devotionals based on this project. If you’d like to check it out, you can find the devotional here or you can find it through The Mark 9:24 Project’s home page listed previously.
When doing a Bible Study, one great technique is trying to get a “forest view” of a passage of scripture before zooming into the “individual trees” portion of the text. For instance, if you want to understand John 3:16 better, it’s a good idea to read the whole chapter 3, the surrounding chapters 2-4, or the entire book of John. By understanding the context from which the Scripture is found, it can help you to make more sense of the passage.
I’ve just been introduced to a wonderful overview of the entire Bible. The Secret Church program presents the facts that, in some parts of the world, it is illegal to practice Christianity. Because of this, if a minister or Bible teacher enters an area like this, they will often join a house church for a several-hour session, where the minister will teach and share as much Biblical knowledge as they can within the time that they have available. After these sessions, the minister leaves the community and the house church splits up, so they can spread the knowledge that they have gained with others. The Secret Church program has made available some of these intense and compact sessions.
The first, the Survey of the Old Testament, takes you through a four hour run through the Old Testament. The second, the Survey of the New Testament is much like it, only focusing on the New Testament. Using these free resources, you can get a better grasp on the Old or New Testaments as a whole, so it will be easier to understand the individual books.
Several other instructional and educational videos can be found on the site, but these two seemed like some that should be a first priority to someone looking to dig deeper into the Scriptures.
